‘Tis the Season for Snowmaking

Wintergreen Resort Snowmaking

The snow guns are working overtime and the skiing is going to be great this weekend.  Wintegreen’s Mountain top temperature this morning was 20 degrees at 7am and it hasn’t gotten out of the twenties all day!  There’s a lot of Mountain to cover so Wintergreen snowmaking activities will be going on throughout the Mountain in the next few days including on Eagles Swoop, Sunrise, Tequila, Upper Tyro, the Fun Park, Dobie and Potato Patch. 

The Wintergreen skiing and snowmaking guru tells us that tonight they will begin grooming Eagles Swoop and there will be 5 trails and 2 lifts running on Saturday.  With grooming taking place overnight on Eagles Swoop, Wintergreen’s snowmaking efforts will shift to new terrain – The Highlands and the Terrain Park!  The goal for next weekend for skiing and riding at Wintergreen: Open Upper Cliffhanger, Lower Wild Turkey, Hydraulic, Tequila, Sunrise, Upper Tyro, Potato Patch and some portion of the Terrain Park.  Check back for updates as the week progresses.  The 10-day Wintergreen weather forecast is favorable, but we all know how fickle Mother Nature can be!

Wintergreen Skiing Opens Friday!

Hot off the press – Wintergreen skiing and riding starts Friday November 28!  This is a day earlier than advertised – if you’re in the know, you can be in the snow before anyone else.  Snow making conditions have been great for the last two weeks and we are gearing up for a fantastic winter season.  The snowmaking gurus have already turned more than 10 million gallons of water into the fluffy white stuff for all to enjoy.  Beat the weekend crowds with this late breaking news and make first tracks on the first day of the 2008/2009 ski season at Wintergreen Resort.  And don’t forget – for kids and adults alike, tubing will also be open this weekend!

Take a Break from Skiing

What to Expect from the Wintergreen Real Estate Blog

Welcome to my Wintergreen real estate blog. This portal will provide a smorgasbord of Wintergreen Resort information and information on buying and selling mountain condos and homes.  For my first post, I could think of nothing better to write about than the weather!  Weather is a integral part of the Wintergreen vacation experience, so it really has nothing to do with the fact that I’m a weather junkie and have been watching the Weather channel since it came on the air in mid-1980s!

Wintergreen Mountaintop Weather Conditions

Getting a handle on the weather at Wintergreen is hard to do because all of the national forecasts are centered around zip codes that don’t take into account the difference between the mountain top and the valley.  So, all of your typical weather forecasts are for the valley.  While I don’t have a forecast (you can always call me for my personal prognostication though), on my Wintergreen real estate website, I do have a summary of current Mountain Top conditions that you can review anytime, 24/7.  What you get is current mountain temperature (typically 8-12 degrees cooler than the valley), wind speed, wind gusts, barometric pressure, and relative humidity (if it reads more than 100%, it’s not working properly).  All of this data is picked up from a live, slope-side weather station and is updated every few minutes.
